welcome, internet traveller
I'm hoping to use this site in order to write, to share thoughts and experiences with my friends and family, and keep up with people, without having to rely so much on the monetized, impermanent, and distracting platforms that we all currently have to rely on, to no fault of our own.
If I sent you this page, you know who I am. welcome. I hope you enjoy the things I'm sharing and encourage you to leave notes, critiques, and thoughts. I hope to keep this updated regularly, and will try to send you things you might find interesting.
I coded this site using astronvim (an improved vim,) vscodium (the OG vscode without spy software) without AI, on linux computers, and using my brain. It's a wonderful experience, and is actually pretty addictive. Everything is not going to line up, or look perfect on every screen.
Basically looking to make a way to send out blog posts, love notes, art collections, hate mail, music reviews, and how-to guides for the people in my life. I hope this ends up being useful and/or beautiful for you.
The website used for hosting is called neocities. It's a real testament to how much the social media industry is capable of ripping us off. Unless you're an influencer, you probably don't post much on social media, but in order to host this information, meta requires de-anonymization, monetization, and all sorts of verification just to be able to participate in the internet. In contrast, Neocities provides 1GB of free storage, and is not for profit. Plus, you can actually customize your site, unlike on literally ANY social media platform.
Unfortunately, it can be a bit involved to learn HTML/CSS for the first time. For people who don't want to learn about coding your own layout, use cowsites. It's basically the same thing, but without coding (which does limit how crazy you can get with it).
