Here's a collection of news sites, information sources, and blogs that I appreciate in one way or another.

As an aside, The best way to read news is through RSS feeds!
Almost all sites are able to be used in an RSS reader, which aggregates all the sources into an inbox for news. I am currently using a self-hosted instance of FreshRSS. There is ZERO reason to be relying on google to amalgamate information for you. It's fun to curate your own information garden and add new things to it.

    • Scientific American is the best publication out there. Get a subscription YESTERDAY.
  • Hackaday
    • one of the only good "maker" websites. For lefty engineers and people who believe in right to repair. against surveillance and in favor of hacking.
  • Electronic Frontier Foundation
    • The EFF is an OG anti-surveillance, lefty technology organization. Even at the most insane tech companies, there's an EFF reader who is inevitably a troublemaker (for good)
  • 404 Media
    • political news about tech and surveillance
  • IEEE Spectrum
    • by engineers, for engineers
  • Intresting Engineering
    • clickbait, but interesting clickbait, about breakthrough engineering.
  • Construction Physics
    • sober analyses on civil engineering and manufacturing
  • Asianometry
    • extremely well-done podcasts and articles on technology history

podcasts

Using RSS for podcasts is WAAAY better than any BS that spotify throws your way. Try using antennapod which is free and open source. You can add RSS links from patreon, or from most podcast websites.
